Being Comfortable In Your High Heels

Womens High heels in themselves can be rather uncomfortable

. If you regularly wear high heeled shoes, you are probably aware of the difficulty in finding comfortable high heel shoes. The discomfort caused is not just during the few hours you wear them but more lasting as you deal with the calluses on your feet, the blisters, ankle strain and calf strain, etc. However, if you work long hours or regularly attend formal social gatherings, you know how difficult it is to go without high heels. This special style of shoe adds a certain touch to any outfit that helps you feel sexier and more confident, provided you don't look like you are not wincing with every step.

When picking out a pair of heels for your next meeting or gatherings, there are a few things you can do to dramatically reduce the strain of wearing your heels. First, choose heels that are less than 3 inches in height. The strain your heels impart on the rest of your body increases exponentially with height as the weight of your body shifts further onto the balls of your feet. However, if you really want to get over 3 inches, explore a platform shoe or a wedge heel as these types of shoes generally offer more arch support and a more gradual slope to heel, which in engineering terms evens out the load. There is overall less direct force on any one part of the foot, but you get the same height advantage you were looking for.

Next, pay close attention to the width of your shoes. While you may think that your feet look slimmer and more attractive if you are wearing a smaller shoe, it is actually having the wrong size that often has the biggest negative outlook on how we look. If your feet look obviously too large for the shoes, it makes your feet appear overly large, while if your foot appear to be too small for your shoes, you tend to look like a 14 year old girl who snuck out in her mother's heels. The single best way to look your best is to wear the best fitting shoe possible and the single best way to maintain the integrity of your toes is to not let them get too cramped.

Last, make sure your heels anchor tightly to your foot and your foot does not slide when moving. This is particularly important the higher your heels as your need for support increases even further. Loose fitting heels is probably the single biggest contributor to falling while wearing high heels and is the leading reason for strain on your calf and ankle. When your shoes are wobbly, you have to compensate for that wobble with your muscles. This puts excessive strain on those muscles leading to fatigue and strain. In addition, when your shoes are not tight, they are no longer an extension of you, therefore, your shoes don't necessarily want to move at the same time and in the same direction that you want to move, dramatically increasing the risk of accidents.

High Heels can help you feel more confident, in control, and sexy, but all of these advantages come from wearing the right heel, not the most fashionable heel. Unless your heels fit well and you are comfortable in them, you won't exude the confidence that you were ultimately hoping for.
