Being Overweight Caused Depression And Thoughts Of Ending It All

Being overweight can cause a number of problems

, and one of these is depression for some people. Tom was a middle aged man who suffered from weight gain, and his case was a typical one.

s a traveling salesman Tom did not get much physical activity during the day, and he frequently spent long hours driving from city to city. A lifestyle that included hotel rooms and restaurant food much of the time did not help Tom to stay in the best possible physical condition.

Having gone through a divorce a couple of years earlier Tom was ready to head back into the dating scene, but he did not want to bring along the spare tire of fat the he had developed around his waist. While Tom's weight was not enough to classify him as obese, he was significantly overweight and did not feel good about his appearance.

Tom decided that the best approach would be to lose some weight before he started dating again, but he was not sure how to go about this. Tom made an appointment with his physician to discuss the best way to lose weight. After meeting with his doctor, Tom realized that the best way to lose weight involves a combination of methods and techniques. He would have to start eating better, and include more nutritious food choices that did not have a lot of calories, fat, or extra sugar. Tom also knew that he would have to start exercising more, so that the fat stored in his body was used for energy instead, and melted away. Another factor was a healthy diet plan, and this component was a little more difficult.

The first diet that Tom tried did not work at all, and with the second diet Tom actually gained weight instead of losing it. Depression set in, and Tom felt like his weight loss efforts were futile. After the third diet failed Tom actually became so depressed that he thought of just ending it, because he did not want to face a life alone. The doctor had warned Tom not to get discouraged though, and to keep trying even when setbacks occurred.

Tom finally found a diet that worked with his needs and preferences, and that allowed him to lose the weight he wanted. He also started choosing healthier food choices, such as salads instead of high fat dishes and fruits as a snack instead of sweets. Tom started to spend at least thirty minutes each day exercising as well, whether it was a brisk walk or time in the gym.

There were setbacks, and his weight loss did not go as fast as Tom wanted some weeks because he took shortcuts, but eventually he reached his goal weight and signed up for some of the online dating services. Tom was surprised at the number of responses that he received, and within a short time he met someone that he connected with very well.

Tom is now engaged, and his dieting and weight loss efforts have paid off very well because he believes life is worth living again. He has continued to keep the weight off, and when small weight gains occur he simply goes back on the diet for a short time.
