Being Proactive Prior To A Salary Review

I like most people work to fund my social and private life

. Work is a way to fund my hobbies and purchase the necessary things such as food, clothes, heat and supply a roof over my head. Not to mention all the insurances and policies protecting us from all sorts of twentieth century disastrous threats, that worries us on a daily basis. I used to feel secure in my job but the employment laws have been diversely affected, by the current credit crisis and double dip recessions. Employers seem to have cashed in on the recession to stream line their work force and this has given them a reason to get rid of unwanted workers without any penalties, totally disregarding the current employment laws.

I consider myself a hardworking and valued member of my small companys sales team. I often wonder how they would ever manage without me. Well maybe I am about to find out, just how valued I am, as an individual and a team member. I am due my second salary review, and I have been proactive prior to this important salary review as if I do not get the rewards I deserve and expect, I will start to covertly look for alternative employment.

The pending salary review (where the term is lnsamtale in Danish) is where I will set out my stall, so to speak. I intend to put my cards on the table and ask for a promotion to team leader with immediate effect. I will also be demanding at least a ten percent salary increase, with immediate effect and lastly I will ask for an office of my own. I know one is available and at the moment being used for storage. I will ask for these additions to my current employment contract based on the documentation I have ready to present to them in the salary review.

I have covered every aspect of my presentation, to prove I have what it takes to improve the company. I will wait and see what they say first, before I say what I want to say. Just in case they offer me something even better.

The salary review meeting started very well, I was offered a twenty percent salary increase double what I was asking for, they also offered me a promotion as the team leader. Seems we were all thinking the same things. I did my presentation but had to change the wording from if to how I will manage the team, offering a supervision structure and regular staff meeting, thus providing them a platform to talk issues through in a safe environment instead of the car park, during a fag break.

All in all the salary review went my way, and I am now in my new office. I have initiated the supervision structure and it is working well, as are the staff meetings. The fag breaks are now taken up by staff talking about the positive changes and more importantly how sales are up by thirty percent, so we all get bonuses on a regular basis.
