Being Smart In The Preparation For Wheelchair Exercises

When you are in a wheelchair it is more important than ever to exercise

. Just because one is confined to a seated position does not mean they get to get out of exercise. Wheelchair exercises are readily available and often quite easy to do for most people in a chair that have the use of their arms. These types of exercises benefit the user by relieving stress and keeping the strength up in the upper body.

Jumping into a routine may seem like the right thing to do but you will need to get ready to make it the best workout for you. First get something in your stomach. Having a light meal or snack about an hour before you exercise is the best for your system. This also gives you energy to work out. You will also get better digestion with exercising.

One of the best tools for exercising are resistance bands. These bands are simple to use and help you get all the muscle groups that you need to. They are pulled in for exercising one muscle group and pulled out to exercise another group. The way you exercise and the position of your arms will determine what muscle groups are being worked on.

The routine you build should start with lighter resistance training before you move on to heavier training. Then it should be ended with stretching once again. These exercises can be done every day or every other day for best results. If you want to do them every day there should be alternating muscle groups you work on.

Practice the art of repetition in your workout. Start with doing five stretches with the bands. Then wait ten seconds and then do five more of the same exercise. Wait another ten seconds and repeat. This is called repetitions. This example would be three repetitions for five.

Breathing is also important as you do exercising. It is important as you raise and lower your band. The same is true with weights that you may use. There are several different types of weights that you can use. It is recommended to go from a lighter weight and work your way into a heavier weight. This will benefit your efforts greatly. There are even specially made weights for people in wheelchairs if you need them.

Do not let being in a wheelchair stop you from exercising. Know that it is more important than even to keep your strength up and to be strong. Exercising also helps your digestive system in a major way. Look for the tools that will help you get there. Resistance bands, weights and other equipment can be found online as well and delivered right to your door.
