Belief And Faith

Faith is the confident trust or belief in the trustworthiness or idea of a thing

, concept, or a person. In religion, one can have faith in the ability of the Supreme Being to solve problems and give blessings. One can also have faith in a religious teaching, doctrine, or a teacher. Faith does not require material evidence or logical proof. In general, faith is manifested when the mind is set that the statement is true as declared by another or as stated in writing. Positivism does not respect beliefs arising out of faith as true.

On the other hand, fideism respects that true belief is only possible if one has faith. The latter also believes that evidence does not lead to truth. The middle group believes that all our beliefs must be supported by faith, but others argue that faith is just the merit by which we value reasoned ideas. For the Bahai, faith is the acceptance of the authority of God. They recognize that faith is necessary for spiritual advancement. It is not just the outward obedience to God, but lies in the understanding of the full meaning religious wisdom. In Buddhism, faith is the central teaching. It is a sense of conviction in the practice. They describe faith as a belief in the existence of something, belief in a possibility to achieve, and the joy felt when an achievement is made. A Sikh faith is centered in the belief of the existence of a Supreme Being, truth, creator of the universe, and creation. Christian faith is based on the teachings of Jesus and belief in God. Muslim faith is referred to a devotee who submits their will to Allah, and the complete submission to the will of Allah.

Some people find religious faith to be unreasonable, and consider it to be a way of closing the mind to reality. But religious faith usually requires the individual to hope for things unseen having faith sustain them, and this is a very important transition to manifesting because there is power in the unknown and there is a reality beyond the naked eye. People never mention faith where there is evidence, but readily use the word faith where there is no evidence. Its easy to have faith in something that you can see, but it is more difficult to believe in something that hasn't materialized yet. The root of the word religion, or religare, in Latin, and it literally means to bring back together or to bind (re: back, and ligare: to bind), so that the term is associated with being bound. which means to come together. It is therefore positive to use faith to refer to emotions in order to achieve this objective. Extreme faith which lacks knowledge however, results in fundamentalism, which is negative to man and social order.
