We all know the healthy benefits of exercising and how it contributes to a healthier lifestyle

. So if we all know this, why is obesity still such a huge problem in the U.S.? Actually it is a really big problem with our country leading the charge in obesity. Over half of the female population over the age of 19 is obese with about 3/4 of the male population clinically obese. It's a problem for kids too; children under 2 are obese at a percentage of 9.5 while the 2 to 19 year olds aren't faring any better at an alarming 16.9 percent. This is not good for any of these individuals due to increased health and heart problems.

In an age where the Internet brings unlimited power to our fingertips, anything and everything is possible. Online shopping and banking, and instant access to YouTube, MySpace, Facebook through social media have Americans glued to their computers. When you really think about it, when was the last time you actually hand wrote a letter, walked to your mailbox and physically mailed something to a family member or friend? It's amazing how so many tasks that we used to perform on a daily basis have almost become obsolete with the immense impact of the Internet.

The same is true of television with all the information and shows about the benefits of exercising. We watch all the healthy cooking shows, the aerobic network, Celebrity Fit Club, but all this viewing is of little benefit to our bodies if we don't take exercising seriously and get off the couch and start moving.

Our lifestyles lead us to believe that we are just too busy to do anything about our weight. We do not have time to cook food that is better for us or take the time to jog in the park.


The good news is that you do not have to let technology keep you sitting on your butt all day long. If you are one of the aforementioned victims, afflicted by the plaguing urge to negate good judgment then please, abandon your bon bons, leave the safety of your couch, and join us in fighting the legions of excess baggage.


These days there aren't a lot of people that have deep enough pockets to join the gym or hire their own buffed-up personal trainer. But there are less expensive possibilities. Get your own healthy crew rounded up to walk together a couple of evenings per week or take the time to throw the football with a couple of friends. Anytime you get the heart pumping, you are burning calories. The more calories you burn, the more you say "goodbye" to the spare tire and muffin-top.

You don't have to pour all your jelly rolls into size two gym clothes, pay an expensive gym fee or buy all kinds of useless weight-loss gadgets that gather dust under the bed. Why not round up a group of friends for a group walk or take the kids to the park and play with them a bit. Of course, activities like this have to become part of a regular routine in order for you to experience any health benefits or witness those lost inches around the muffin-top.

Isn't it time you felt better about yourself and your body? That is just one of the many benefits that exercising will bring to your life. You will be stronger and more in control and when you look better, ultimately you will feel better.
