With the recent VAT increase and the worrying talks to put another increase on fuel tax, it's the right time to start thinking about purchasing a new, more fuel efficient vehicle. Fuel prices are quickly nearing the six pounds per gallon mark, and it's causing motorists to worry about the future of their driving. Commuters are choosing to buddy up in their vehicles and share lifts, or to opt for public transport like the bus and the train to get to work.

If you are used to a petrol car then the Toyota Aygo is one of the most fuel efficient on the market, with very little co2 emissions and an outstanding sixty two miles to the gallon. The car costs on average nine pence per mile in fuel, with its only downside being that it still qualifies for the London congestion charge.

If you favour a diesel engine then opt for a vehicle like the VW Polo which does eighty three miles per gallon and has outstanding co2 emissions. In fact it's so green that if you own one you don't have to pay the congestion charge! make sure that when you are choosing a hybrid car that you consider where the parts come from; it may be environmentally safe when on the road but the cost of freight for the parts might be environmentally harmful.
