For long loose waves the best barrel size is 2 inches in diameter, working well for creating fat curls as well. You can also opt for a double or triple barrel curling iron, allowing you to create S shape or figure eight shaped curls and waves faster since the barrels work on larger sections of hair at a time.

If you want the most natural looking waves without split ends, dryness or frizz, you would do your best to avoid using cheap curling irons with metal plated barrels. Using a good quality curling iron should save your locks from damage and even improve shine and health when applied correctly.

1.Make sure your hair is dry and add a thermal protective product, distributing it evenly. If you have any around, use a wave or curl product on your locks for best results, though keep it light, you don"t want to weigh down your hair.

2.While you wait for the curling iron to heat up, separate a section of hair that is 1 inch thick more or less and wrap it around the barrel once it"s hot. Hold the barrel about 2 or 3 inches from your scalp. If you want more waves, twist the section around your fingers before wrapping it around the barrel.

3.Hold the lock of hair around the barrel for about 10 seconds and release. Repeat the previous step with all of your hair until it is all styled into waves. Finish off with a light holding spray.
