Have you been asked to be your buddy's best man? Then you'll need to prepare a Best Man's Speech!

Relax, it's not as tough, or as intimidating as you might think. There are a few simple things to remember when drafting and presenting your Best Man's Speech.

The Preliminaries

Long before the big day, start to think about things you'll want to cover in your speech.

Jot down some notes, and for the next few days, write down other memories or things that you'd like to tell the wedding guests about. Right now you're just in the preliminary stage, compiling material for your speech.

The Opening Remarks

First of all, you'll want to introduce yourself. There will be many guests who do not know you. A simple, "Hello, my name is Rick, and [groom's name] asked me to be the Bests Man at his wedding. I'm so glad and honored that he did!"

You can also explain in a sentence or two how you and the groom have come to know each other.

To open any speech, it is always good to be gracious. The Best Man's Speech is most likely the final speech of the reception, and you'll want to cover any points that any of the other speeches have missed.

(For example, any thank yous that need to be made.)

Thank the guests for coming, thank the groom and bride for allowing you to be part of their special day. Thank the bride's and groom's families for the work they've provided in making this day beautiful.

It's always a nice idea to compliment the bride. If she looks radiant, say so! Remember that this day belongs to the bride and groom.

Also, don't worry if you're nervous. You can even say something about it to the audience - most people fear speaking publicly more than dying, so they can relate!
