Better English Today: Free Publication for English Second Language Learners

Better English Today (BET), a new publication for English Second Language (ESL) speakers, has been launched in Melbourne, Australia.

"Better English Today is packed with a variety of articles and activities such as comprehension questions, quizzes, tests and other fun ways to help ESL speakers improve their understanding of English," says David Isaacson, a trained teacher and director of Granville Stevens Publishing. "The first release of the publication is in Melbourne, but we have plans for releases that focus other cities as well, including Sydney, Adelaide, Perth and Brisbane."

English has been described as the global lingua franca and language of the internet. Almost 1 billion people in the world speak English as a Second Language and nearly 400 million speak English as a first language. Better English Today is dedicated to helping English Second Language (ESL) learners become more confident in using English. It supports all ESL examinations and is designed to promote English fluency.

English teachers and students are welcome to use the publication in class and for private study. Better English Today is designed to promote interaction between English Second Language speakers and also to promote Australia as an English learning destination. "We welcome contributions and ideas for articles from teachers and students," says David Isaacson. "Email your ideas to: editor@betmelbourne.com.au. We expect future editions to expand as more articles and activities are included. We are planning special editions with a focus on beginner English, academic English and other English skills."

The first edition includes articles and quizzes on Business English, prepositions and antonyms. It also has short, informative articles and quizzes on Flinders Street Station, the Australian Flag and Kangaroos.

A limited number of free ebooks, called "20 Conversational Dialogues to Improve Your English Fluency," is available for anyone who signs up to receive BET from www.betmelbourne.com.au. The free ebook, valued at $19.95, is packed with informative fluency dialogue scripts about Melbourne and Australia.

"Anyone who uses the dialogues," says Isaacson, "will learn about some of the great tourist attractions in Melbourne as they improve their English language skills. Teachers can use this free ebook in their classes to engage students in conversations, or for dictation."

Better English Today is also suitable for anyone planning to visit Melbourne, or who would like to learn more abut Australia. Fill in the form at www.betmelbourne.com.au to receive your FREE COPY of Better English Today in .pdf format.
