Better Life Game

Better life is essentially not a virtual game; it is an attempt by the creator Rob Wright

, known in the second life community as Rob Dingo, to improve virtual life of a man. The music of better life is given by the British band called Angry Man. Better life is sort of like a music video and was inspired by Silvers Bells and Golden Spurs a movie by Eric Linden, Senior Artist of Linden Lab. It is the story of a mans search for a better life in the virtual world. As mentioned above, better life is completely shot in machinima film. After deciding upon the soundtrack of better life, Rob Dingo proceeded to create props and a story board based completely on virtual life images. Sharing his experiences, he said that making a film in second life is very much like making a film in real life. Once he had finalized the props and story board, he attained a better understanding of the continuity and balance of the film without actually having to film any scenes first.

Second life, a virtual community was launched in June 2003, by Linden Lab. Viewers, a free software program, allowed the users known as residents to interact with each other through avatars. The term avatar, coined by Neal Stephenson, refers to a users representation of himself in the virtual world and can take several forms ranging from a three dimensional model used in computer programs to a two dimensional image/picture on social networking websites and other such communities. Residents of second life engage in various activities like their real life counterparts including but not limited to socializing, participating in both individual and group activities, traveling and creating and trading virtual property etc. The target market of second life mainly includes people of eighteen years and above. However, teen second life targets teenagers between the ages of thirteen and seventeen. It is interesting to note that the residents of second life do not feel hungry or thirsty but often enjoy food and drinks and live in houses as leisure activities.

Creation refers to the process of creating and modifying the appearance and behavior of residents and the virtual world. For example, users can create a new dress, food and drinks and build a house and office etc. A three dimensional modeling software based on geometric shapes is built-in the software and allows the residents to modify and add content. Linden Scripting Language, the programming language used to add functionality to objects in second life is often used in combination of this three dimensional modeling software. Second life Terms of Service allows users/residents to retain copyrights of all content created by them. Another interesting fact is that second life has a number of diverse subcultures some of which are user driven. Linden Lab does not charge users for creating a second life account or accessing and using the virtual world for any length of time. However, it reserves to right to charge a single user for creating multiple accounts.
