The year is 1947 and Britain has just won the war yet belts are still being tightened. The government is telling its countrymen to ration and hunker down. Local officials are behaving dastardly. They are taking more than their fair share. However, the people look forward to the joyous nuptials of Princess Elizabeth and Prince Philip. Betty is a delightful pig, who is being raised against the law, so that the town dignitaries will feast upon an exquisite banquet for the Royal Wedding. The local townspeople will have to eat Spam.
Anthony Drewe has out done himself this time. The score to "Betty Blue Eyes" will get you swaying to the music, wanting to dance in the street. "Betty Blue Eyes" is a brilliant British musical comedy. It is full of strange, yet delightfully funny characters. There are bullies, spivs and snobs. The ensemble of cast and characters will have the audience rolling from laughter and song.
The cast of "Betty Blue Eyes" is outstanding. The London cast contains Sarah Lancashire as Joyce Chilvers, Reece Shearsmith as Gilbert Chilvers, Jack Edwards as Mr. Allardyce, David Bamber as Doctor Swaby, Ann Emery as Mother Dear, Adrian Scarborough as Inspector Wormold and Mark Meadows as Lockwood. These actors are consummate professionals and work exceedingly well together. The cast has unparalleled chemistry. Adrian Scarborough can be seen in the Oscar winning film "The King's Speech." Jack Edwards is highly regarded in the theatre world. He was most recently seen in "Sweet Charity." Ann Emery is known as the West End's longest running leading lady. She has been in "My Fair Lady" and "Cats" to name a few. Mark Meadows was just seen in "Mary Poppins." Sarah Lancashire is said to be the star of the show. She has many creative credits to her name. Reece Shearsmith has an impressive body of work to claim as his own. Some of his work includes "The League of Gentlemen", "The Producers" and more.
"Betty Blue Eyes" is brilliantly written. The score is perfection. The cast is beyond excellent. Tickets are available now. The show runs Monday through Saturday. If given the opportunity to see this performance, one must take it. "Betty Blue Eyes" gives the audience a thoroughly joyous ride.
