Bible Study on Revelations - The End-Time Battle Between the Dragon and the 'Remnant'

The vision of a conflict between the dragon and the woman in Revelation 12 is a continuation of the great controversy between Christ and Satan. A Bible study on Revelations 12 will show that this cosmic conflict began in heaven where there was a war between Michael and His angels on the one side, and the dragon and his angels on the other. The result of this initial war is the casting out of Satan and his angels; their places were no longer to be found in heaven.

Having being cast out of heaven, the Devil continued his warfare on earth against the woman. His intention is to get rid of the man child that the woman should bear. This man child is none other than Christ who is to rule the earth with a rod of iron at His coming (Rev. 19:11-21). The dragon's enmity against the child was manifested in the desire of King Herod to kill baby Jesus as soon as He was born. But Satan did not succeed and the child was caught up to heaven having accomplished His mission for which He was sent.

When the dragon saw that Christ escaped his dragnet he turned on the woman whom he persecuted for 1260 prophetic days. This woman is a symbol of the church. After Christ ascended to heaven He passed on the work of preaching the kingdom to His disciples. But the Devil desperately wanted to frustrate the work of the church, and so he launched a protracted period of persecution of those who aligned themselves to Christ. By this persecution policy he hoped to crush a movement which, if left unchecked, would destroy his kingdom within a short time.

In your Bible study on Revelations 12 and 13 you will see a transition from a conflict between the dragon and the woman to a conflict between their representatives. It was said that Satan was upset when the woman escaped beyond his reach. And so he made preparation for the final war against the remnant of the seed of the woman who keep the commandments of God and have the testimony of Jesus.

Therefore, conflict you read about in your Bible study of Revelations 13 is the final episode in this great controversy. In this conflict, the dragon will empower the beast to make war with the saints and physically overcome them (Rev. 13:7). But in the end, the saints will triumph through the blood of the Lamb and the words of their testimonies because they love not their lives unto death (Rev. 12:11).

There is no doubt that we are living in the last days. Christians must now realize the responsibility that is incumbent upon them. The Devil is well advanced in his preparation for the greatest warfare that this world will ever witness. From a Bible study of Revelations 12, you will see that Satan has deceived the whole world. But the church cannot afford to be a victim of the Devil's shenanigans in the last days if she is to be fitted for the service of God for the salvation of man.
