Bid Rivals review Is it a scam or can you really get a Nintendo Wii for $5.47?

A Nintendo Wii for $5.47, an Apple Ipad for $30.28, a 40" Sony flat screen tv for $57.96 all seems too good to be true doesn't it? My first thought was that this must be a scam, no legit business could sell products that cheap. But with such awesome bargains I just had to look further into Bidrivals and was actually quite surprised at what I found

How Bid rivals works:

Bidrivals is a penny auction' site, basically

You buy some bids at 65cents each

Place a bid, this raises the price of the item by 1cent and 15 seconds is added onto the countdown clock

Once the countdown clock reaches 0 the last bidder wins the item for that price.

OPTIONAL - if the auction ends and you didn't win the item at the bargain price you can use the value of your bids towards purchasing the item at the RRP.

Now the reason Bidrivals can legitimately sell these high ticket items at such low prices...

The math on how bid rivals make their money (while you get a bargain)

We'll use the Nintendo Wii which finished for $5.47 a couple of days ago as an example.

The retail price of this item is $205.00

-The finishing price of $5.47 means that 547 bids have been placed at 65c each, so Bidrivals have made 547 x $0.65 = $355.50. Subtract the RRP of the Nintendo Wii which is $205.00 and Bidrivals have made $150.50 profit ON TOP OF what other retailers would sell it for.

Now for the math that shows how you get a bargain:

Lets say you placed 50 bids before being the final and winning bidder, these 50 bids x $0.65 = $32.50, add on the winning price of $5.47 and you have just purchased the Nintendo Wii for $37.97 saving $167.00.

Now it seems easy enough written like that but you can easily get into the trap of placing lots of bids and not winning the item, so Here's a few tips to help win the items and not lose any money trying to do so.

Check out completed auctions. You can easily see what the typical ending price of an item is by checking out the CLOSED AUCTIONS tab, this can really help in knowing when you should start placing your bids at the last second. If an item generally sells for $10.00, start placing your bids at $8.00. Occasionally an item will sell for far less, so I always place a few bids at a lower price just in case but don't get really serious until it starts getting higher.

Use the bid agent. If you don't have the time to sit there and watch the auction to bid at the best time use the Bidrivals bidding agent. Basically you tell it the maximum amount of bids you want to place and the maximum price you will go up to. Then it automatically bids for you when there are less than 4 seconds left on the clock and someone else has bidded higher than you.

Bid at the last second every time. This is the best way to make sure you don't waste your bids (and money!)

Set your spending limit. Set a limit that you are willing to go to and don't go over it!

Remember there is an element of luck involved. It's not like trying to win the lottery but some auctions will be easier to win than others and cost you less to win. In this review I've used the example of the $5.47 Nintendo Wii, but a day before that one the same item was won for only $1.87!

So no you won't win every time and yes Bidrivals are making some nice profits but if you be smart with your bids and stick to a few basic guidelines you can get some really good bargains at Bidrivals.
