In India, the launch of the first bikes was made because of the need for better patrolling by both the police as well as the army. After this, bikes became quite an inherent part in the lives of most of the Indian population. In India, bikes have secured a really firm place. These days, people not just purchase bikes just because there is a need to do so, but bikes in India has also become part of their personality as well.

In the year 1955, the first bikes were launched in India. These were the 350cc Bullet and were made by the Royal Enfield Company. The first batch of bikes was assembled in Madras also known as Chennai and they were brought so that patrolling the borders would become more efficient by the Indian Army and also the police department. Later on, a Japanese motorcycle manufacturing company introduced the Yamaha brand in India. India bikes had never been so efficient and with the introduction of the Yamaha brand, Indian people got the first taste of a bike that was complete in all respect. For almost a decade, Yamaha ruled the Indian bike market and soon started launching new models including Yamaha RX100, RX-Z, Cruz, Libero G5, Alba 106, Gladiator, Enticer, etc.

After the success of the Japanese brand in the Indian bike market, other global manufacturers started shifting their interest towards the Indian market. Very soon, different brands and models of bikes started coming in with additional features and benefits. Most of the bikes launched after Yamaha offered great fuel efficiency. Even today, these bikes are running on the roads in India with glory and confidence.
