People that can use not one, but two languages fluently

, are known to be bilingual. The bilingual global community that exists now, can be quite beneficial for job seekers. For a country as the United States of America whose population includes many immigrants, companies will often be seeking bilingual employees to serve non-English speaking customers. When persons bring to mind bilingual jobs, the first thing that usually comes to mind is a translator or interpreter; however, the need for bilingual people exists in just about any industry. Some of the jobs in which being bilingual will be an asset or a requirement are: Interpreter, Translator, Customer Support Representative, Teacher, Medical Personnel, Journalist, amongst others.

Interpreter & Translator

Interpreters and translators convey information from one language to another. Both jobs have numerous similarities, but differ as a translator usually works one way (their native language), on the other hand the interpreter has to be able to work in both directions. The other language should be spoken, written, and understood to an extremely high level. This type of job doesn't simply need words to be translated, but also to be able to communicate ideas and concepts. The best employee should also understand the subject that is being communicated and be knowledgeable of the customs and culture of the associated languages.

Customer Service Representative

Companies are often seeking bilingual employees as calls can come from anywhere in the United States or the world. They are normally seeking persons who can speak English and Spanish (The second most common language after English), other languages are also sought after. The position requires employees to provide assistance to customers, whether it is technical support, billing, or general account information.

Teachers

Teaching is another profession which comes in contact with persons of varying ethnicity and backgrounds. Frequently in schools, there are students who do not speak English, as a result bilingual certified teachers are often preferred. A bilingual teacher tends to earn more than teachers who speak English only.

Medical Personal

Regardless of what language is spoken, everyone will ultimately have to seek medical assistance. It is important that people are able to communicate exactly what problems they are having to the medical personnel. Medical facilities encourage and prefer employees who are bilingual.

Journalist

There is a high demand for journalists in non-English speaking areas; this will include traveling outside the United States.

Web Design

Company websites will probably have content in more than one language to serve all its customers. Bilingual web page designers are more fitted for these positions
