. People may binge when they experience any negative emotion, such as anger, sadness, or depression. Feelings leading to binge eating may include anxiety, stress and emotional negativity. After a binge, however, sufferers of this disorder tend to feel even worse, suffering from feelings of guilt and disgust with themselves. The problem generally accompanies or leads to depression and further anxiety thereby turning binge eating into a vicious cycle.
To stop binge eating, you have to develop a commitment to overcome this problem. It sounds clich, but it is what it really needs to take. Binge eating disorder is food addiction, like any other addiction, you need to commit yourself to overcome it. Do it one day at a time. Feel proud of yourself each and every day that you do not binge. People with bulimia nervosa (sometimes called binge-purge syndrome) binge on food and then vomit or use laxatives to avoid gaining weight. They may also fast (stop eating for a while) or compulsively exercise after an eating binge.
As in other eating disorders, in binge-eating disorder people are often overly focused on and unhappy with their weight, body shape and appearance. People with binge-eating disorder often feel miserable about their lives and are at higher risk of serious health complications than are those without the disorder. How do people develop binge eating disorder? According to National Institutes of Health, almost half of the people who suffer from binge eating disorder also suffer from depression, or they were depressed in the past. Most people also have trouble managing emotions.
When you come to realize and accept that binge eating disorder is not going to control you anymore, you will start branching out more. You will find yourself saying "yes" to invitations. When you start to do new things, you will develop a new confidence. You will start pushing binge eating disorder to the back of your mind, instead of always being at the forefront. Binges can last anywhere from a matter of minutes to a matter of days. In certain cases, they have consumed upwards of 10 or 20,000 calories during a binge. The average caloric intake is only about 1500-3000 per day, so you can see that binge eating is certainly a disorder to be taken seriously.
