I've been blogging for a decade. Initially blogging was looked on as a freakish activity conducted by weird people in their pajamas. After 2005 however, businesses started to pay attention to blogging, and over the past couple of years it's become a mainstream business activity.

This means that people are looking for you. If you can convince them that you can help their businesses, you'll get hired.

To achieve that, it's important that you understand that blogging is a ghostwriting activity. You're writing on behalf a company, in their name, rather than under your own name.

Once you realize this, finding these kinds of jobs becomes much easier, because companies don't want blogs. They're not interested in social media marketing and how it all works, they're interested in results. If you can promise your clients results such as increased traffic to their sites, and increased sales, you'll get hired.

I advise my students never to promote themselves as bloggers. Remember that the companies you work with don't understand blogging, and they don't want to. They just want increased profits.

Getting started is quite easy. You'll need your own blog, and you should be able to create one in the next half hour. Then start creating content which is aimed at the people for whom you'd like to work.

Next promote your services on your blog, and become active on social media sites like LinkedIn, Facebook, and Twitter. This will help you to get the news out about your offering.

You'll get a response, because there's a huge hunger for content online. Businesses know that they need to provide content which is constantly updated to get traffic and make sales.
