Blogging: A Few Valuable Lessons I've Learned From Doing It
We all learn new things in two ways
We all learn new things in two ways. First, we read, listen, and take down notes just like we did at school. Somewhere along the way, we encounter stuff we think we won't probably need later in life, but we continue learning because we are required to. This is passive learning.
Then there's active learning, the type I like better since it gets you involved. You choose to learn about the things you're interested in or sometimes, you're forced to learn because you need the input badly. What I like about active learning is that you get information on things that your really need to learn about. And along the way, things become REALLY interesting! You get to a point where it becomes both fun and educational, something I wished school stuff really had.
The great difference between passive and active learning is that the latter allows you to experience things as you learn that's why it gets really interesting. You are made to find out what you need to learn, and that's where I believe true knowledge starts. Just like blogging.
A few years ago, I had asked myself, "What the heck is blogging all about?" Well as I learned my way through it, I've come to realize that there were so many things about blogging that I couldn't have learned without actually doing them. Here are a few that I ought to share with you:
You need to create unique posts. There are millions of bloggers in the entire cyberspace and a lot of them are simply blogging to get the market's attention. The most successful bloggers I've seen didn't have attention as their main purpose for getting into blogging. Attention just came, because they were providing value that other people needed. And they gave value in their OWN way, from their OWN experiences, and not from somebody else's. Make your posts unusually UNIQUE people love reading unique content. Put some fun into it, too your readers are people, and they love to be entertained.
To succeed at blogging, you have to enjoy writing. It's a good thing I do NOW. I'm not a born writer but discovered that writing can be fun when I started to put in some comments into other blog or forum posts. And when the authors responded, I discovered how easy writing could get. Writing is simply the expression of your thoughts and opinions, so it's just as easy as talking! When you think of writing that way, the words will simply flow. If you're not much into writing another good alternative is to do video blogging, which is actually the hottest thing to do these days.
Get traffic from various sources. Don't rely entirely on your blog to bring in the traffic for you. While keywords and tags work, it pays to link up to other sources such as other bloggers, through forum participation, Facebook, Twitter, Digg, and other social sites or article directories. Make your blog interactive, so your readers get involved.
You will meet so many fantastic people as you blog. I've learned about blogging and other marketing stuff from so many amazing people I've met online. I've developed partnerships and affiliations with some of them, and everything started out with blogging. Don't limit yourself to blog commenting there are so many ways to do it online and offline. Write to them or meet up with them if they're coming to town. Or pay them a personal visit if you travel. Who knows, you might find a great business partner later on!
In a matter of time, it will pick up. And when it does, there's no way to go but UP! You need to do a lot of work in the beginning just like everything else in life. But once you start providing value, you will begin to get wider exposures and referrals that will lead to bigger collaborations and partnerships in a matter of time. For some it takes just some months, for others it can take years. But they get there you just have to be positive and resilient; don't get easily discouraged and keep the faith!
