Blood Pressure Machines For Home Use
If you are in the market for a home based blood pressure machine then this article will explain the different options available for you clearly
. What it comes down to is that of all the various models you can buy they all fall into two basic categories, they are either aneroid blood pressure machines (also called manual blood pressure machines) or automatic blood pressure machines (also called digital blood pressure machines). Let's investigate the unique pros and cons of both options.
If ease of use is a top priority for you then an automatic blood pressure machine is the way to go. When operating an automatic blood pressure machine all you need to do is wrap the cuff around your arm, just above the elbow, and press the 'on' button - and bingo, the rest is taken care of for you! The inflation and deflation of the cuff is 100% automatic and the reading is taken down and recorded automatically on a digital screen.
Semi-automatic blood pressure machines are another option. The difference between a semi-automatic blood pressure machine and an automatic blood pressure machine is that you need to inflate the cuff manually with a hand pump but the deflation takes care of itself. Semi-automatic blood pressure machines are second in popularity to the automatic monitors.
The less popular option for home based blood pressure monitors is the aneroid blood pressure machines, they are more complicated to operate, so why use them? The reason is that aneroid blood pressure machines are very accurate, more so than automatic machines. Automatic monitors still give an 'ok' result but they don't live up to the accuracy of an aneroid monitor.
Aneroid monitors require you to inflate the cuff manually with a hand pump. At the same time you need to listen for your heart beat through a stethoscope. When you hear you heart beat for the first time that is when you take your upper blood pressure reading, at which point you need to start manually deflating the cuff too.
An aneroid monitor features a dial based screen from which you take a reading rather than the easy to use digital screen of an automatic blood pressure machine. So, to get the best result you need to look at the dial at just the right time. When the cuff starts deflating there will be a point when you stop hearing your heart beating, this is the point at which you take down your lower blood pressure result.
As you can see this can all be a little tricky to operate, especially by yourself. However, as already stated if you can get accustomed to it you will get accurate results. It is also important to point out that aneroid blood pressure machines are delicate and the slightest bump will require them to be re-calibrated.
So which kind of blood pressure machine you choose will depend upon your preference of ease of use and relative accuracy. There are also other choices for those with physical issues that may make attaching the cuff to you arm difficult and those choices are wrist blood pressure machines and finger blood pressure machines. I hope this guide helped you figure which is the best choice for you!
