Boost Your Immunity with Joy & Reduce your Stress!
Chances are, if you are stressed beyond your normal boundaries you life is out of balance. We all need a little stress, but how much is too much? How you know if you are beyond your boundaries is if your inner voice has a differing opinion than that of your current activity. You'll also know, if you regularly skip or miss meals, eat more convenience foods than naturally-sourced items, if you are constantly fatigued and impatient, or if your moods have been less than stellar for more than 3 months. Most of us are going so fast that we only stop when illness occurs. Just where we going, or what are we running from?
I equate stressed-out with that of being misaligned with the laws of nature. Humans have separated themselves both mentally and physically from the natural aspect of their organism to the point of being grossly lost' within their own species. We come from nature so it would stand to reason that to be healthy on all levels, to live organically within the cycles of Mother Earth, the moon, the tides, and the seasons, is the best way for our systems. The key is to listen longer enough to hear what your body is whispering to you. Ok, sometimes yelling at you!
Unfortunately with stress, it is a vicious cycle that is very hard to get out of. As our minds, emotions, and bodies and all inter-connected, if it starts with emotional stress that is left unchecked without a healthy outlet, then it will eventually creep into the physical body, and similarly in vice-versa scenarios.
In Canada, we seem to have acquired a work-until-your-die attitude, with little room for fun and slowing down the pace. Blame it on the capitalistic idyllic life to the South of us whose mentality is the driving force for a lot of us. Or the fact that our society has become so expensive, many of us don't have a choice but to work A LOT to support our families. Did you know that in 2011, we have more time saving devices than any other time in history, yet we are also the busiest? Shouldn't we have time to spare?
If we keep up this "hamster-on-the-wheel" existence, our bodies will soon start to tell us unequivocally what is out of sync.
Conversely, the effects of joy are heart-warming, peaceful, restful, and long-lasting. I've always wondered why, after returning from a vacation, I don't live in that pace for the majority of my days. My time seems to stretch farther, my days are longer, and I feel fulfilled as an individual in society. My mind is clear, my creativity is on high-alert, and my attention span and focus are finely tuned.
Perhaps it is due to the fact that I've taken the time to take care of myself. Not just by eating fresh produce and exercising my body, but also by allowing myself to receive gifts from life. These gifts may include fostering my creative side with new hobbies, talking a nature walk, expanding my brain by learning a new language, or whatever tickles my fancy at the moment.
Exercise, hobbies, and fun activities create positive endorphins within us, which make us feel good. When we feel good, our bodies heal faster, our bodies maintain an ideal weight, our bodies are able to detoxify faster, and cell production and repair is greater and swifter. We look more youthful; we have increased vitality & stamina, and have a clearer view of our goals and dreams. Everything works easily and effortlessly, just like in nature; uncomplicated.
In nature, there is a defined balanced between giving and receiving, a yin and yang aspect to all that is. Isn't time to balance the two and give to yourself as well as take care of others? If we don't stop to slow down and truly find out what JOY' means to us, we won't be here to find out.
