Boosting Thin, Limp Hair
People with very fine or thin hair have difficulty finding products that work well in their tresses
. This type of hair needs featherlight products, because any heaviness will further pull down the hair, reducing the volume even further.
If you have fine hair, you should choose products that cater to your hair type. Shampoo and conditioners that are designed for fine hair, or products that induce volume are lighter formulas that are less likely to weigh you down.
Many of these products often come in two-in-one formulas that have shampoo and conditioner together. These tend to be the lightest solutions, and least likely to leave heavy residue behind. However, if you find these types of products don't give your hair enough moisture or control, a lightweight conditioner will work too.
When applying your conditioner, persons with fine hair should start about a third of a way down the hair shaft, and work the conditioner to the tips of the hair. Your roots don't need the extra weight, so this is a great way to keep from overburdening your hair. Plus, the roots are the key to bounce and volume, so keeping them as light as possible will give your hair fullness.
Make sure you rinse your hair thoroughly so no residual product is left behind. If you use a blowdryer to add fullness to your hair, always use a low or medium setting. You'll find it useful to apply a volumizing heat protectant spray on damp hair beforehand.
Fullness starts at the roots, so adding a little body enabling formula in this area will help you give your hair some thickness and bounce. There are special products you can buy made especially for the roots, but you can also use mousse. Styling gels are usually to heavy for fine hair, so you should stick to sprays and foams instead.
Keeping your hair lightweight is the key to adding volume to fine, thin hair. If you find a product that drags down your hair, discontinue using it and try something else. It may take a little experimenting, but you will soon discover a world of vibrant fullness when the right products are found.
