Brainstorming For Breakthroughs
It is more important than ever, with our recent economy
, that we are constantly on the lookout for new ways and different opportunities to do business.
One way to do this, is to separate yourself from your competitors and the accustomed approaches you have been utilizing in your business.
Recently, I saw a clever sign at a Dairy Queen. It read:
Happy Hour
50% off drinks
2-4pm
This sign is enlightening in many ways.
One, Dairy Queen imitated a very common approach in the restaurant and bar industry. Happy Hour isn't something you would usually find in a fast food restaurant, so it's hooking the customers with that.
Two, the time of day that they are doing this at is probably the least revenue generating time of day. Their fountain drink sales are most likely at a standstill or close to it. Soft drinks are a very profitable product, so they are still making money, even with their price at 50%, plus it's better than 0.
Three, they have the potential to get add-on sales by simple suggestion at the drive-thru window.
In the end, this strategy seems foolproof.
How can you implement something creative like this in your business? Check out these ideas for revealing masked potential within your business-
Look at profitable and innovative plans others have implemented, and devise a similar idea that works with your business. It will most likely be successful for you if it was for them. Many ideas can come to fruition by just being observant to other successes around you.
Ask yourself how you can take something you do that is mundane and make it fresh and more exciting for your customer. This will help you to outperform your competition and dominant your market.
Be sure you're ready and willing to take advantage of all opportunities within your business and industry. It's easy to do this with another person's business because you're not as close to it. Once you adapt the behavior and state of mind you will be able to do the same with your business.
Always be thinking about how you can make an idea or product better and different. Not just to change an aspect of your business, but to better your customer's experience with your company.
Look at what other companies view as issues or obstacles and morph them into opportunities for yourself.
By implementing these ideas you are creating a sense of value to your customers. Value is the most important aspect to customers these days. Customers are expecting more and more and any value you can add to your business can only help you in terms of revenue and more importantly profits.
