Brand Design Ideas

Developing a brand is highly important for most businesses

, and being able to mark your products and services and products as recognisably yours is a sure way to ensure your customers come back to you (assuming your product or service is good to begin with). This means developing a recognisable brand that customers can identify with and everything that goes along with that.

A brand means a logo but its more than that and can be expressed in many ways. Take Apple for example, their brand is recognisable not only from the (very well designed) white apple emblem that graces most of their products, but also from the rounded white speakers now synonymous with iPods and iPhones, and the rounded edges of latest gadgets. All this makes their products unmistakably Apple and means that if a customer has tried and enjoyed one of their machines that theyre more likely to try and enjoy another. There becomes an added bonus too when you consider that owning entirely Apple devices would keep a more constant style flowing through your technology and also make them easier to integrate.

Coca Cola is another globally recognised brand with a very different product. Their product again is so well branded that all their advertisers have to do is include a dash of red or white, or the well known motif (always Coca Cola) for the advert to be clearly about Coke. So wide reaching is Cokes brands influence that theyre even responsible for the red and white in Santas costume.

For a final example lets look at a brand known for a service rather than a product, and here whats better than Amazon. Amazon express their brand rather subtly. Their logo is small and a basic type face and is only printed in small onto the corner of their packages (though they use a dash of orange visible in their packages that runs through their site which links these two elements together). However the packaging itself is innovative, effective and unique enough to be quintessentially Amazon packaging and cleverly that packaging has become synonymous with the sense of excited associated with getting a new parcel. The Amazon service is also associated with speed however, and while there are always cheaper options available through Amazon, where the price difference is minimal most punters will choose the option that comes direct from Amazon to assure the fastest and best packaged delivery.

These giants have all used highly effective branding then to get to the position theyre

now in and theres a lot to learn from all of them. To design a brand then you first need a logo and one that says something about the company and its service. This logo can be subtle and minimal (like the Nike tick) and easy to reproduce (which gives potential for free viral marketing), or more complex and contain the actual name of the company. Choose the colours wisely then integrate these into the design of your packaging, the product, website and documents in a manner subtle enough to work on an almost subconscious level. Finally with this in place, look at designing the actual product or service itself and tweaking it in such a way that it can stand out on its own and that your new logo becomes synonymous with class.
