Breakdown Of The 2010 World Series Of Poker
For the most part, the World Series of Poker has come and gone for another year
. 56 events were completed and for the most part the 57th has been done. It of course is the Main Event - the $10,000 No Limit Hold'em Championship. It started with 7319 players and is now down to nine. These nine will reconvene on November 6.
The total prize pool for this event was a touch under $70 million. In light of this, first place is going to receive a little but under nine million dollars. You can see why so many people risked $10,000 to play in this poker tournament which is incredibly difficult to win. Your life is going to be instantly changed forever if you do win.
Winning the main event at the World Series of Poker is like winning an Academy Award or an Olympic gold medal. It creates instant credibility, respect and acceptance. You are going to be remembered for it for the rest of your life as people respect that title. They know how difficult it is to win thus if you did so, you must be someone special.
Prize money was paid out to the 747th player and better. There aren't many poker events where you can say that. Typically if you finish around there you've come last but here they would have done better than around 6500 people. The guy who finished in 748th and on the bubble received the consolation prize of a free seat to the 2011 Main event so that is nice. The lowest prize amount was $19,263 and got higher from there.
As usual, everyone and anyone in the poker world tried their hand at the tournament in an effort to make it. Due to the volume of people competing, the first day was divided into four different parts. On this first day the likes of Ray Romano, Phil Hellmuth, Jason Alexander, Greg Raymer, Joe Hachem and Jamie Gold were eliminated.
Also the second day was divided into different parts and here you had Doyle Brunson, Chris Ferguson and Carlos Mortenson bow out. Day 3 was the first day which was a standalone one and here former champions Chris Moneymaker and defending champion Joe Cada exited the tournament.
Scotty Nguyen won in 1998 and made it as far as Day 5 where he went in 209th spot while two-time winner Johnny Chan made it a day later and went in 156th. So now we are down to the final 9. It is dominated by Americans with two Canadians and one Italian. One of them is about to become a household name.
Already a household name is Michael Mizrachi. Known as the Grinder he is a regular on the poker circuit and is the highest profile of the 9 remaining players. He was in good form coming in having won his first World Series of Poker bracelet at an earlier event. He is currently in seventh spot and will have a mountain to climb as chip leader Jonathan Duhamel has 50 million more chips than him.
