As a member of the British Airways' Frequent Flyer Scheme, you earn miles that make you eligible to receive benefits such as free travel. The following key points will help you to comprehend what exactly the British Frequent Flyer Program is about.

Joining British Airways automatically makes you a member of the Executive Club. Travelling with Oneworld and British Airways will enable you to earn both air miles and tier points. Oneworld is the alliance that British Airways has with Cathay Pacific, American Airlines, Iberia, Finnair, LAN, Japan Airlines, Mexicana, Malev Hungarian Airlines, Royal Jordanian Airlines and Qantas.

There are three tiers of membership with the British Airways Frequent Flyer Scheme. The Blue Tier allows you to start gaining points at once. You will also be given preference on waitlists, and seating and menu options. If you are travelling via Club World, First Class and Club Europe seating, you will be given admission to lounges.

You will progress to the silver tier once you have earned 400 tier points and have flown with British Airways at least 4 times or have travelled with British Airways a minimum of 50 times. Benefits of the Silver Elite Status include: acquiring 1.25 miles every time you fly 1 British Airways mile, lounge access, and the ability to check 2 pieces of suitcases for free when you travel with UK Domestic World Traveler and World Traveler seating.

Gold Elite status is attainable once you have been awarded 800 tier points and have travelled with the airline at least 4 times. Benefits include: acquiring 1.5 miles every time you fly 1 British Airways mile, lounge access, admission to the Concorde Room at London Heathrow once you've obtained 5,000 tier points, along with additional benefits.

If your ticket is purchased at a discounted price, you will only earn 25% of air miles. However, you can still earn points when you make purchases at businesses that partner with British Airways.

You are allowed to purchase British Airways Miles in order to round off your miles balance to receive an award ticket. You may also purchase miles to give as a gift to someone else, though they have to be a member of the Executive Club.
