Moles on skin are abnormal skin growths. If you are going to get some they will occur during the first couple of decades of your life. Sometimes they grow in groups while other times they grow alone. There have been some cases where they have disappeared then there are other cases when they raise up more. They have a variety of causes. The most common cause is when the cells decide to grow in groups instead of evenly throughout the body. Studies are now showing that genetics and the sun also play a role in the case of them. Congenital ones usually are formed around the time of birth. Dysplastic ones are large and funny shaped. Both types can turn into cancer later on down the line. Most of the time they are not cancerous. They usually only become a medical issue if new ones appear and they look different then the already existing ones. Another medical concern about them would be if they bleed or are painful. If one experiences some of these changes then they definitely need to see a dermatologist. Normally people do not treat them unless they want to get them removed for cosmetic reasons. The only other time a surgery would be needed would be if the dermatologist recommended it because the mole was found out to be cancerous. To find this out the dermatologist would have to take a tissue sample and do a biopsy. In the case that it is cancerous the dermatologist will then remove it and some tissue around it. After all the cancerous tissue is removed the dermatologist would then have to stitch the area closed. When getting moles removed their can be some risks behind it depending on which method the dermatologist uses. First, it is the possibility that it will be painful. But this can be helped by taking some pain medicines. Second, it can cause a scab. But the scab should heal in about two weeks. Third, there is the risk of getting an infection. Fourth, there is the risk of nerve damage occur. Lastly, there is the risk of getting permanently scarred. However, the Chinese believe that moles have meaning behind them. They believe that depending on where they are located on the face it tells whether they will be wealthy, lucky or unlucky. If the moles are visible then they have some kind of warning or reminder behind them. If they are hidden they believe that it stands for good luck and fortune.
