Breaking Up Is Hard - Why You Should Give Gifts

Break ups, they are all too common these days and can happen to the best of us

. Regardless of whether the relationship was long term or a short romantic fling a break up can be devastating. The majority of us can relate to what it feels like to have a relationship break down and all of us will have a friend or family member go through it at some point or another in our lives.

Going through a relationship break down can be a lonely and very isolating experience. The confusion it causes can leave our heads spinning not to mention the dent in the ego. Dealing with self confidence issues brought on by a relationship break down can be helped immensely by our support network of friends and family. One of the best ways to help self esteem issues is to give gifts. Giving a gift to a newly single friend can help raise spirits and validate their value of who they are and how special they are considered to be.

The gifts you give can be wide and varied. Giving a gift doesn't have to be a costly exercise and they can take many forms. It could be spending time with them, lending a sympathetic ear, a big hug or a phone call filled with lots of encouraging words. You could send them a card with an inspirational quote written inside, some bath salts to relax with, beautiful soaps, gorgeous hand cream, a book, tickets to a sporting event or a show, a massage voucher, a new gardening tool or anything to do with a hobby their interested in. Including them in your social calendar can also help to ease the loneliness caused when losing a partner. Going to a BBQ, a dinner or any fun social activity? Extend an invite to your friend. Having things to look forward to can be a very welcomed distraction and can add some fun back in their lives.

Taking the time to do something, whatever it may be will go a long way to helping the break up process. Gift giving is universal and is important for celebrations, commemorations and commiserations. The act of giving a gift can help strengthen bonds between people and validate the relationship. So next time one of your loved ones needs a pick me up, give them a gift, you're sure to make them smile.
