Breakup Advice For The Modern Teenager
As a teenager, the last thing you probably want to hear right after a breakup is advice from the adults around you
. Although they mean well, they just do not really understand what you are going through.
Not only that, but sometimes they actually seem to think that the pain you are feeling is not that bad and that you shouldn't let it get to you. How can they be so cold? Don't they know that your heart has been shattered into a million pieces?
Breaking up with someone you love can be devastating at any age, but as a teenager that may be dealing with this type of pain for the first time, the pain may be particularly hard to deal with. Here are some breakup advice and tips that may help you, whether this is your first heartbreak or your thirty-first.
Immediately after the breakup, you will probably feel as if your world has fallen apart. In some ways, it probably has. After all, the person you most want to spend your time with has just told you that they no longer want to spend time with you.
It is quite normal to feel like everything would be okay if you could just find a way to get back together with your ex. Even if this is true, you need to be patient. Rushing in and begging your ex to take you back is not likely to get them back.
What does often work is playing hard to get. Try to convince your ex that you believe the breakup is better for both of you. Lead them to believe that you are enjoying your new freedom.
This works, because as human beings, people seem to be programmed to want the things they cannot have. If you really want your ex to miss you, do your best to ignore them entirely. This means no phone calls, e-mails or text messages. No telling your friends to tell him that you are dying without him. Let him think you really are not that upset by the breakup.
There is a good chance that not hearing from you will get your ex curious about what you are up to. If they call, let voicemail pick it up, then wait for a while before you call back. Do the same thing for texts or e-mails they may send to you. If you run into them, at school or anywhere else, be polite but don't seem excited to see them.
After you have done this for a few weeks, your ex may just be dying to spend time with you again. If you still believe that making up is the best thing for you, then you can start letting them back into your life, a little at a time. These are some of the good breakup advice I have for modern teenager like you.
