A breast lift without implants is called a simple mastopexy

. A mastopexy is a cosmetic surgical procedure performed by a plastic surgeon to lift breasts which are excessively droopy. All breasts have a certain amount of droop, which is also called ptosis.

As a woman ages, all the skin on her body will begin to lose elasticity and have a certain amount of sagging and this includes the breasts. Gravity, pregnancy and lactation are also causes for excessive ptosis. Not only does the tissue and skin become stretched out, but the nipple and areola may move into a downward pointing position which many consider to be unattractive, as well. 4. The most successful outcomes occur when the patient understands that scarring is permanent and they are accepting of this fact.

5. A non-smoker will be a good prospect, because cigarette smoking hampers the healing process.

Augmentation includes the insertion of medical devices called implants to the breasts in order to add fullness and increased size. The implants are available in a variety of sizes, shapes and textures. Sizes are available to suit individual body and skeletal structures; shapes are rounded or oval and come in different levels of projection to align most naturally with the woman's physique; textures may be smooth or rough and will affect internal scarring and slippage.

These operations take from two to three hours to perform in a hospital or clinical setting. A general or local anesthetic will be used and the patient will usually be released on the same day. There will be pain, bruising and swelling initially but all will subside over a matter of weeks. The scars will substantially fade after one year and will continually recede as time goes on.
