Bright Ideas On Sun Safety And Why ultra Vigilance On Ultra Violet Is A Must

Whether you run a restaurant, an herbal products store

, manage a local bank, or anything else in between, installing entrance, window, and even dome awnings outside your facility should be a top priority. Over the last 30 years, scientists have worked hard educating the public over the harmful effects of too much sun. While our sun-worshipping culture still admires a rich tan, customers nevertheless have come to recognize and appreciate the need for caution and prudence. As such, most will prefer a well-shaded facility over other open-air options, so consider installing a commercial awning today.

As a business owner, you need to constantly invent new business strategies especially when it comes to the very much in-the-news topic of UV rays and skin protection. Relying on old age tactics that promote carefree suntans or sun burnt physiques no longer work because customers are more educated than at any point in history. Management and finance experts around the globe must reconsider their marketing and consumer strategies because they know that the present-day consumer is informed, smart, and knows whats best for him or herself. Failure to meet these consumer-driven standards can mean loss of business.

Thats why awnings make so much sense. The modern customer knows that when outdoors, he or she has to stay protected from the sun. But even in this age of science, some may well ask, what exactly is the risk? What is it about Earths nearest life-sustaining star that similarly makes it so dangerous? Here are some facts to help keep some cosmic perspective! The sun is just one of billions of similar giant spheres of compressed gas, mostly hydrogen. Although 93 million miles away from Earth, the suns 10,000F surface, (or 27 million degrees Fahrenheit at its interior) like a giant iron stove, radiates heat and light out into the living room that is our solar system. Thankfully, Earth is close enough to the furnace, but not too close. By the time that heat and light reaches Earth, its still warm enough to keep our planet at a San Francisco-like pleasant 57F average temperature.

But in addition to visible light (and heat), the sun emits other types of radiant energy that fall below our ability to see. Ultraviolet light is one of those wavelengths. While low doses help in the formation of vitamin D, a major component in whole milk, higher doses interfere with the building blocks of life, our DNA, causing mutation. Too much exposure to the sun can cause mild reactions to severe diseases like skin cancer. Did you know that more than half of all cancers in America are cases of skin cancers? According to the American Cancer Society, more than 2 million cases of skin cancer are reported in the United Sates every year. The deadliest form of skin cancer Melanoma is predicted to account for 75,000 cancer cases reported in 2012*.

The main reasons people develop skin cancer (both melanoma and non-melanoma types) are:

* Unshielded and/or extreme exposure to ultraviolet radiation. This is commonly found in sunlight and tanning parlors.

* Having a pale skin tone. People who get sunburned easily, or dont tan or have blond or red. colored hair are prone to developing skin cancer.

* Having excessive exposures to pitch, coal tar, creosote, radium and arsenic compounds.

* Having a family history of skin cancers.

* Having unusual and multiple moles anywhere on the body.

* Have a history of getting severe sunburns.

As evidenced by the above list, the leading reason for developing skin cancer is excessive exposure to ultraviolet radiation. And the top source of UV radiation is the sun. Whats more, a thinning ozone layer especially in extreme northern and southern latitudes and at certain times of the year means more UV energy is reaching the Earths surface. Prolonged exposure to UV rays usually leads to the person developing non-melanoma skin cancers; however, there are instances of melanoma cancer being caused from exposure, too.

Now that you know how dangerous exposure to sunlight and in extension UV radiation can be, it is vital that businesses consider covering any open areas with well-built and installed awnings and shade structures. Placing an awning on your windows, or using dome awnings for the entryway to your store or commercial office facility can help reassure store patrons that they will be well protected from the sun while they are conducting business with you.

Awnings and shade structures installed in front of your store or your restaurants outdoor eating area will likely increase pedestrian foot traffic, increasing its appeal. Bright colored awnings look great for any store and add a unique appeal to the business. Ultimately, patrons will choose your establishment over competitors simply because youre offering the much needed protection from the sun.

The sun might be a bright burning ball of condensed gas sending out waves of UV light. But the brightest idea might be your decision to install suitable awnings and shade structures today!
