Everyone loves baseball. Everyone who loves baseball really loves home runs. Therefore, everyone will love a home run derby. Get the community out to the ballpark with a Home Run Derby Competition. Invite community vendors and businesses out or even to sponsor. Almost any corporation or business that accepts money from the federal government is required to re-invest a portion of it into the community. Talk to these businesses and ask them to sponsor your event!

Get loud speakers and an announcer. Bring out live music, from local up and coming artists. The radio stations in your community love coming out to these types of events. Set up inflatables for the kids, base running and pitching competitions, and obviously a home run derby! You can do it all for fun, or a "King" or "Queen Slugger" crown and title, or you can even offer a cash prize.

It might be a great idea to divide the competition into divisions like: Men, Women, Teens (12-16), and Children (11 and under). This way everyone can be involved and compete. Also, come up with a great name for your event and promote, promote, promote. Usually thirty second commerical spots on radio stations are very affordable. Get some advertisements in the newspapers as well. Make sure everyone in your community knows about your event and make sure they know how fun and exciting it is going to be!
