Building Up Your Seo Keywords Through Links
Search engine optimization (SEO) is a lengthy process but it is THE primary way to
spend your marketing budget online if you want to see long term results. A company should never opt for search engine marketing (SEM) exclusively over SEO. Customer loyalty is much less on the internet than in conventional stores which means that you can not rely on people coming back again and again like they might have at your physical store. With thousands of people offering the same services and products, many services and products become are like commodities (where price and convenience are the deciding factors).
To the conservative buyer, price predominantly drives their buying, but must buyers are really just looking for a product and it is typically the first or second store they find selling it that they are likely to buy from. This means you need to be that first store. For search engines that means being a sponsored ad or a top ranked page with a great title.
Once you have decided on the perfect keywords to focus on and have optimized your site for the keywords you want to focus on, the next step in search engine optimization is building links to your site. Site optimization and the keywords you choose make the foundation of any company but it is links that give those keywords value. To make an analogy, if you are building a building in Manhattan, you can build the deepest highest quality foundation in the world, but you are never going to be seen across the Manhattan skyline without building up brick-by-brick (in our case link-by-link). It may have only taken a few hours to decide on your keywords and implement them on your page, but you will spend months to years building links in order to become well ranked. The work is not complicated but it is rather time intensive even if you have many of the special tools.
So how does one go about building links? Link building can be done in many ways with the value of the links wildly variable. Options include link purchasing. There are many services out of India that will sell links for a flat fee per link. These link are legitimate though link buying is not considered "white hat" by the search engines and the sites that are selling the links don't necessarily stay around that long once the search engines find out. Besides the questionable links, buying links can get quite expensive. Other link building techniques include requesting other website to link to your own though this also has limited value as this usually involves offering a link back, but this can be remedied by having a second website that you offer to link to their site from in exchange for a link to your site.
Other link building programs include posting comments on forums (not very popular), submitting you site to various directories (such as DMOZ), writing articles, submitting press releases, and making comments on social bookmarking sites. Another great source of links are blogs. They also make a great way to build a contact list. If you sell products, offer review opportunity. If you sell services, offer these services in exchange for comments and a link about your product. As a minimum you can have your own blog that can be used to post your most recent articles and links to your new products and services.
The source of the link is less important (as long as it is not from bad neighbors) compared to the keywords used in the link. When you build a link on another website, include the one keyword that you want to focus on in the hyperlinked words as well as the title for the link. If the link is a picture, be sure that the title and alternate tag are filled exactly with the keyword that you are targeting.
Set a goal to build a specific number of links each month and stick to it. Consistency cannot be stressed enough. Be consistent and stay focused on your target keywords and eventually over time you will start to see you search engine exposure steadily grow.
