A lot of people go out and purchase a computer desk based on whether they like the look of it, and most often what the price is. Sure, most desks are similar in height so it's fair to only look at the price and the attractiveness, but you need to be sure that it is going to help you stay comfortable when you sit at it. When you sit at a chair at a computer desk, you should have your feet touching the ground so that they are level, your knees bent at a 90 degree angle and your elbows bent at a 90 degree angle. From that, your palms should rest comfortably on the desk if you are within 20 cm of the desk on your chair. If your arms don't sit flat then the desk is either too tall or too small. Wrist Pads are vital to keep your wrists happy, or you will develop pain over time.

Even for average sized people, this is something that you want to check. Chairs today are mostly adjustable, but they can't help you if the desk is not tall enough, or it is too tall. A desk that is the wrong size will have a massive impact on your back and will eventually cause you pain, which is something that you want to avoid. Sure, you can put things under the desk to make it taller, or you can wind the legs down if that is an option. However you do it, you need to ensure that the desk promotes good quality ergonomics; in this day and age where millions of people sit at a desk all day long it is vital! I have found that using Optical Mouse Pads and adjusting your mouse speed up means that you don't have to move your wrists as much, and as a result they are put to less stress.

Some computer desks are designed with keyboard slides, which can be a good idea depending on how comfortable they are to use. I have always found them too low, or they move whilst you are trying to work. Personally a well designed desk is more than enough; you don't need the keyboard slide. Ensure that you are able to sit at the desk in a straight manner too; some curved desks mean that you have more of one arm on them than the other, which is not good for your back!
