Here is a Father's Day card that I made for my Dad

. First off, let me just say I did not design the pop-up portion of this card.

My Dad LOVES to fish, so I thought I would try and incorporate fish into his Father's Day card. I did a search on the web for fish clip art, and fish cards and ran across this pop-up card. I have always been intrigued with pop-up cards, but I had never tried to put one together - so I decided to purchased the PDF file and put one together. It was fairly easy to put together! In case you are interested, here is the link to the site, they have many differant patterns. Below is the the inside of the card.

Here is the outside of the pop-up card. I couldn't resist putting a fish on the cover of the card. This metal embossed fish was made using my new CRI-Kits metal embosser tool.

I was pretty impressed with how easily the metal embosses manufacturer . I used the blunt end of the embosser tool, and set my Cricut Pressure at 4 and Speed at 3. After I embossed the fish, I then used ordinary scissors to cut out the fish - actually I borrowed my son's scissors because I didn't want to ruin my good paper cutting scissors (shh.. don't tell him). I never tried cutting the metal with my Cricut, I just assumed it would damage the Cricut blade.

I did do another Metal embossing project -- the fish pictured above. It is not the prettiest example of embossing - but I thought that I would share anyway. When I was making this image I didn't take into account the little rubber 'wheels' that help feed paper into the Cricut machine - they left marks! In the above photo you will notice the marks near the bottom of the image, that is where the rubber wheels run over the metal. I tried to 'buff' out the wheel lines by flipping the project over and rubbing the backside -- as you can see it didn't work.

I don't know if there is any way to move these wheels over, if I remember correctly the Cricut Cake Machine is able to adjust these wheels? Anyway, as I only have a Cricut Expression, I guess I am limited on the size of metal embosses manufacturer I can emboss (about 2.5 inches by 11.5 inches). So if anyone know how to adjust wheels I would love to know....

UPDATE: I just got this note from the CRI-Kits company and this is what they had to say about the embossing on metal...

"You can cut with your cricut blade with no problem. I have used the same blade to cut paper after cutting a lot of metal embosses manufacturer with no problems. However, I would suggest using a blade for metal and designate another for paper. Just seems prudent. :).

As for the "tire tracks". We see the problem on the mats that you are using because the metal is not adhered to the mat perfectly like the top and bottom adhesive mat is. The "tire tracks can still show up a bit but with a bone folder and a flat surface and the right touch they are hardly noticeable. Your mat is a pre-production mat as well so there is a difference with the one I am sending you next."

I thought it was interesting to know that the cricut can actually cut thru the metal - can't wait to try that one! As soon as I get a new mat (one with adhesive on top and bottom), I will try embossing a larger sizes of metal again and post my results -- so stay tuned!
