With the present economy spiraling downward rapidly it is important that you keep your credit report clean and clear. You may want to buy a large ticket item for your home, or a new vehicle, or you may want to refinance your home or buy a new one. The lenders, bankers, and retailers all look to your credit history before they either accept of reject your application. Your credit report tells them how you manage your money affairs and gives them your credit history. In order to keep your credit report updates and clean you have to consult the three major credit reporting companies: Equifax, Experian and Trans Union and eliminate everything that does not belong there. This should be done at least once a year to keep your credit report new and fresh and to prevent identity theft.

Once you have consulted your credit report you will know if it is good or bad. Bad credit can be repaired but not by you. The creditors are more apt to negotiate with a professional credit repair company although there is no guarantee that the professional will be able to repair all of the bad credit.

Although there are many credit repair companies, they all work pretty much the same way. However, when you use the credit repair company you will have to do your part by not making any more unwanted debt. While the credit repair company is attempting debt settlement and other negotiations you will have to make certain that there are no more negative statements appearing on that credit report. What you have to do is plan a budget and then live within that budget.

It is important that you start by destroying the credit cards. Five or more credit cards is far too many, these should be paid off and destroyed. One credit card can be kept and used sparingly. After you have gotten rid of the credit cards the next step is to get rid of what you might have considered a necessity but was really a luxury, i.e. watch plain television and get rid of cable and dish. Expensive games to entertain the children are not a part of their nurture and nutrition and could very well be done without. Avoid impulse buying. If you are a shopaholic than take someone with you that will hold you credit card while you shop for only that which is necessary.
