The second step is to make sure you do not come across as being a needy person. We all feel like we cannot make it without our ex sometimes, but we should not make this too obvious as it is a big turn off for most people. Instead we should be strong letting people know that you are ok and can make it on your own if you have to. This shows self confidence which is an admirable trait and will attract people, not push them away like being needy will. When you work on your self esteem and confidence, your chances to get back with your ex are greatly increased.
Some of the worst things you can do is to try and get back at someone or try and make them jealous. Revenge is never good when trying to mend relationships and neither is jealousy. The last thing you want them to think if you really want them back is that you have moved on with someone else or that you got the last word or revenge. You want them to know that you are ok, but if they think you are moving on, then they will move on too. Just be strong and confident and forgive the past and honestly change for the better. These actions will attract your ex to come back.
