Can I Select My Courier Driver's Route?
Usually when you ship something with a Boston courier service
, your package isn't going to be the only one that they are carrying in their vehicle. The normal model that courier companies use puts packages and cargo from several clients on the same vehicle in order to help them maximize their profits. In these situations, you normally aren't going to be able to have too much input into what route your driver takes. However, there are certain types of courier service that you may decide to order where this is indeed the case, and you can dictate as precisely as you want how they get where they are going.
The times that you are going to get to have more input into the routes that your drivers' use are when yours are the only packages that they are carrying. There are three primary situations where this is going to be the case. The first is rush delivery, because with this option, a driver is supposed to make no other stops between pickup and delivery of your package. While you could dictate their route in this situation, they often know the roads exceptionally well, and may get better times if left to their own devices.
The second situation in which this takes place is when you hire a driver to be subcontracted to your company full time from a courier company. When they are working for you, and aren't making any other pickups or deliveries, it isn't going to slow them down in any way, or negatively influence any other clients, if you dictate their route. Therefore it is almost always going to be acceptable in that type of situation.
The final situation where you can choose the route the driver takes is when they are hired on an FTL basis. When people are shipping large cargo with large trucks, they have the option of only using part of the space of a truck and allowing the courier to try and fill the rest with other client's cargo, or to hire the whole truck (FTL). When yours is the only cargo in the vehicle, the courier is going to allow you special requests like choosing the route that they take.
Remember to at least ask your courier if you have a strong reason for requesting a specific route. Although they usually can't accommodate it if shipping for multiple clients in a single vehicle, it never hurts to ask.
