Can Mercury Fillings Cause Yeast Infections?
There are many obvious health threats; obesity
, smoking, drug or alcohol abuse. Others are not so apparent and one of those secret perils is probably hiding in your mouth right now.
If you have any 'silver' fillings in your teeth you are ingesting mercury every day. Mercury is a neurological toxin declared by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as one of the most toxic elements on earth. Just a few diseases linked to mercury are autism, multiple sclerosis, and ALS. Mercury is also believed to be one of the major causes of candida, an overgrowth of a yeast-like organism found in the human body. When this population explosion occurs, a variety of health problems may follow.
Amalgam Fillings Have History of Controversy
Dentists have been using a blend of mercury and metal powder to fill cavities for more than 150 years. The material in the mix consists of about 50% mercury with the other half combining silver, tin, copper, and a bit of zinc. When this inexpensive filling was developed in 1833 many dentists objected to its use, warning of the dangers of mercury poisoning. The proponents won out, however, and amalgam fillings became commonplace.
The controversy over amalgam fillings rose repeatedly over the years. It was even verified that dangerous mercury vapors did escape from the fillings. Cameras captured pictures of mercury vapor rising from silver fillings and being inhaled into human lungs.
The American Dental Association (ADA) denied the proof but by 1986 evidence against amalgam fillings had piled up. The ADA still wasn't ready to admit they'd made a mistake and went so far as to ban dentists from recommending patients have the amalgam fillings removed. The FDA did finally step in and warn that this dangerous material should not be used in pregnant women, small children, nursing mothers, or people with weakened immune systems.
Mercury and Candida
According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC) there is no acceptable level of mercury in the body, yet three-quarters of all Americans have amalgam fillings in their mouths. Each filling contains an average of half a gram of mercury; the same amount that the CDC says is fatal if ingested.
It has been reported by physicians who specialize in treating candida that at least 98% of chronic candida patients have elevated levels of mercury in their blood. Candida Albicans, an organism in your digestive system that is meant to help control harmful bacteria is also programmed to help the body eliminate mercury and other heavy metals. When you have mercury in your bloodstream the Candida Albicans go into overdrive consuming as much mercury as possible. This attempt to help you causes the Candida Albicans to begin multiplying rapidly and throwing off the fragile balance in your digestive system; that leads to candida overgrowth.
Is there a solution? You can have the amalgam fillings removed but it is a costly procedure and must be done by a dentist experienced in the technique. If that is not an option, visit a naturopathic physician and get a blood test to see if you have mercury in your system. If so, talk to your holistic health care provider about safe, natural options to rid your body of the mercury. Those options do exist and eliminating mercury from your body could be a big step towards conquering candida symptoms.
