Can There Be A Pop Music Prodigy?

It is interesting to ponder how much technology has changed the nature and definition of what is a prodigy

. Traditionally, child prodigies are identified in two main areas, music and math. Math genius is still math genius, and technology has not changed this much, but music has changed greatly. It is still easy to identify a prodigy in classic music such a piano playing and the violin, but what about pop music. Music made with synthesizers and other modern technological aids. To answer this question, we interviewed some traditional classical music experts, but also experts at music production schools.

As one might suspect, classic music authorities did not enthusiastically endorse the notion of pop music prodigies. Again, another classical music expert laughed and painted a picture of a civilization 500 years in the future assembling to play an Eminen song. Eminen, a concerto in E minor. Some Ivy League (or whatever has replaced the Ivy League) musical prodigy will step onto a stage wearing a tux, and a crisp dry academic tone, with violins and cellos and flutes doing a wretched imitation of the pop beats Eminem played, and begin speaking in a demure voice with a starchy accent, perhaps British. Ahem. Two trailer park girls go round the outside, round the outside. . .

Crusty members of the audience will offer petite claps. Oh, bravo. Bravo. Well done sir. During an interlude, before the crowd returns inside to hear a 50 piece orchestra play "Fuck the Police" by an ancient band with the bizarre name "Niggers with Attitudes," top academics will be consulted to understand what two trailer park girls go round the outside even means. As potential answers are offered, the more demure women will blush at the brazen lyrics. And it will be admitted that extant records offer no definitive interpretation of what the phrase meant, and it appears that the culture was so ignorant that it paid homage to lyrics it didn't even understand.

Futurity may ask what sort of crass civilization could find such guttural music entertaining? A historian in attendance can at least answer that question. Moral decay is integral to the collapse of any Empire, be it the American or Roman. Romans ate and vomited and vomited and ate and loved their orgies. Americans gorged on fast food and watched pornography and had their stomachs stapled and of course considered banal music to be entertainment.
