. If you have never made candles before you should first start by reading through the steps involved. They are simple to follow and fun too. For todays project I will be discussing the gel candle supplies that are required to make gel candles.

Most people obviously know about candles, few people however know about gel candles. Gel candles are fun candles that let you go wild with your creativity. Most of the materials and tools needed for the job are easily available. If you are planning to make candles for personal use, then you can improvise some of the materials. However, because gel candles are so fun you can also make some and give them away as gifts. For this, it is important to work with the right kind of materials and tools.

When shopping for the supplies, start by looking at the types of candle gel you might like. Gel wax is available in a clear color, however its density varies by type. The best type to use for making light scented candles is the regular or CLP low density. It is made to handle small quantities of fragrance.

Thicker candle gel or CMP medium density is ideal for medium scented pieces. This is also the best type of gel to use if you want to put in non suspended decorative embeds. Embeds are items placed in your gel candle wax, they can be as simple as sand or marbles to as creative as fruit or plastic toys. High density gel is well suited for more fragrance and it can hold embeds very well. If you are planning to use decorative embeds, it is best to work with CHP high density.

Once you have decided what type of gel wax you want to get you can now start thinking about what embeds you want to put in your candle. There are glass embed which are available in a wide range of shapes and colors. There are also wax embeds that work well with gel candles. If you want a more natural look, you can use items such as shells, sand, and even fruit. Embeds vary in size which makes it easy to get objects that are proportional to the size of your candles.

Other gel candle supplies you need to get include wicks and gel safe candle scents. Wicks are available in a wide range of diameters. The size of the wick depends on the size of the candle, it is best to increase wick diameter as the diamter of your candle container increases, some containers may also need more than one wick.

A note of caution with candle scents: Because gel wax is so different from other "normal" candle waxes you need to be careful about the scents you get. You cannot use just any candle scent for gel candles. Gel-safe scents must be non-polar. Always check with your supplier before buying candle scents to make sure they are non-polar and have a flash point above 170 degrees.

When getting gel candle supplies, consider also buying warning labels to place on the bottom of your containers as it is important to put a caution tag on every candle you plan on giving away. Gel candles burn at much higher temperatures than normal wax candles, therefore it is important to remain safe when burning your gel candle. Once you begin your new hobby you'll discover the fun and creativity of making gel candles.
