Cannabis Consumption: Smoking Vs. Vaporization

There are various ways to administer or consume cannabis and two of the most prominent routes of administration are smoking and vaporization

.

Cannabis smoking entails inhalation of released vapors by heating or igniting the flowers, leaves and stems of the cannabis plant. Smoking results in the release of the active component of cannabis called tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). THC is absorbed into the bloodstream through the lungs. Studies show that THC provides abundant medical benefits. Furthermore, researchers also found that cannabis heating results to the production of more THC. Several implements are available for smoking cannabis. Some of these are pipes, bongs, joints, and blunts.

An alternative to cannabis smoking is vaporization. A vaporizer is designed to smoke (or vaporize) cannabis without heat or ignition. Recent research suggests that cannabis vaporization maximizes reception of THC and active cannabinoids while the negative and harmful effects of smoking are reduced.

Moreover, compared to smoking, vaporizers tend to lessen carbon monoxide and tar inhalation. Vaporization is likewise proven to have a faster onset of pharmacological effect, direct delivery into the bloodstream through the lungs, and more accurate titration, thus, a more consistent dosage is achieved.

All recently conducted scientific studies on the use of cannabis vaporizers have resulted to the same conclusion, that there is indeed a reduction or complete elimination of the release of harmful elements.

It is notable to mention though that cannabis smoke, even through the method of smoking, does not increase lung cancer risk. THC and other active cannabinoids, according to a major 2006 study, are found to contain anti-tumor properties such that they encourage early breakdown of aging cells, thus, preventing them from leading to cancerous transformation.
