Finally released new Canon EOS 5D Mark III is a nice addition to Canon family
. Widely respected previous model, Mark II, known by its ability to record full HD video, now is updated and improved. Let's see the major changes in the latest model.
Mark III offers some improvements that will surely be appreciated. It has a 22 MP full frame sensor and a 61 point AF system. Every major system is, comparing to previous model, somehow improved and upgraded. With ISO 100-25600 standard range expendable to 50-102.800, and up to 150 000 frames rated shutter, Mark III has a quieter operation. That includes the silent shutter from some previous models, also improved.
Let's start with this lovely new LCD. Some reflection issues are solved, bigger screen with 3.2" looks better, it's better protected and offers higher resolution. AF 61 point sensor is a novelty in this range cameras, and something even professionals will appreciate.
The one thing everyone will like is a possibility for side by side viewing on this enlarged screen. Especially good performances can be expected in very low light environment. The quality of this little camera is the most prominent in situations like that. With reduced reflection, just ideal for night shooting.
One of the most appreciated improvements will be in the area of ergonomics. Buttons are placed on more logical positions and touch sensitive. Sound recording problems are also solved. Switching between recording modes now is much simpler, and setting new preferences in one won't affect previously set ones in the different mode.
Multiple exposures, improved video output and some new compression options are small but significant step forward in overall quality. Built in HDR Shooting allows SLR capability. Another new feature is the ability of multiple exposures recording. This will be surely appreciated.
Lens profiles are inside camera, allowing corrections while processing JPEG images. Comparing your images side by side could be very interesting. Menu offers numerous new options, including a new tab for dealing with your AF system. Different presets can be very useful, and it allows better managing of different options.
Flash system remote control is no longer infrared. Radio wireless increased the range on 30m, and you don't have to worry about different obstacles any more. Generally speaking, customer feedback based improvements made everything much easier to handle. The position of particular buttons was changed, and numerous issues solved.
New vertical grip includes a set of doubled controls for portrait shooting. Actually, this is a compact, appealing model, visually different from its predecessors. Even the covering material feels differently. Maybe it is slightly heavier than Mark II, but still more than comfortable.
Not only the overall managing is improved, but also downloading your images to your computer, thanks to dual cards. H1 and H2 options, with high ISO range, make this camera the best in poor light conditions. Even the auto shoot option works just fine without special adjustments.
