Canon Multifunction Printer Versus Lexmark And Hp
Since its introduction, the Canon multifunction printers have sought to build a reputation as an industry leader
. However, that is easier said than done. There are plenty of rivals on the scene and they believe they have the nouse and sophistication to usurp the one time undisputed champion of the sector. The Lexmark X 2670 and the HP Deskjet F2840 both offer excellent models at an affordable price.
At every level, therefore, the competition is hotting up. The question we have to answer now is: which is the best. Well, we could think of nothing better than to do a good old fashioned head to head. It might not have the high octane thrill of a Top Gear Road test, but it will have to do.
First, let's define the battlefield. The competition here is for multifunction printers - namely those that incorporate more than a single utility. Typically, in addition to printing these models will also offer scanning, photocopying, fax or email. In essence it can serve as an all in one document management centre making it perfect for any office.
First let's take a look at the Canon Multifunction printers. This sector is pretty large so we'll pick one from the middle market - the Pixma MP190. It has a sleek, almost other worldly appearance and looks every inch the state of the art high tech office device. It automatically detects what you're trying to copy - be it a photograph, text or just a page from your notebook. It then sets itself up to process the image with the best settings possible.
It's an impressive piece of kit and one reason why the Canon multifunction printers occupy such an envious position in the market. However, there are pretenders. The Lexmark X 2670 sits in the same price range, between 30 and 50 pounds. Simplicity is the watchword with this. It's not flashy, but does what it does well offering good speed and reliable performance.
Meanwhile the HP Deskjet F2840 offers excellent speed and efficiency. Combining all in one functionality of a printer, copier and fax within a single unit, this is the kind of device many people who work in a home office have been crying out for.
Last but not least it wouldn't be a Top Gear style road test without bringing in a super car. We have none in this case, but the closest we get is the Xerox Phaser 8560 which aims to bring ultra performance into a more afforable bracket.
So if the Canon Multifunction printers are to maintain their position at the head of the market, there is plenty of work to do. For the consumer, though, the news is good. All this competition is helping to drive down prices making top end capabilities more affordable than ever before.
