Car Parts That Have A Positive, Yet Sometimes Unrealized, Environmental Impact
In world increasingly focused on the health of our environment
, automobiles have become a major focus of green initiatives as they are seen as a major source of many of our current global pollution concerns. Beyond owning a hybrid vehicle, there are certain steps drivers can take to ensure that their vehicle, regardless of make or age is reducing its impact on the environment. These steps that reduce the vehicle"s impact on the environment involve the following: window tinting, air conditioning and management of the vehicle"s tires.
Auto window tinting can have a very large impact on the amount of energy used by the vehicle and thus the amount of emissions released by the vehicle. It is known that when a vehicle has tinted windows, it shields UV rays from passengers and reduces the overall heat absorption of the vehicle and thus reduces the amount of air conditioning needed within the vehicle. This reduction of the use of air conditioning within the vehicle reduces the amount of stress on the engine itself and thus has a positive impact in decreasing the amount of fuel used by the vehicle. This decrease in fuel reduces the vehicles impact on the environment, all because the driver invested in window tinting.
Coming back to air conditioning within the vehicle, it is important to note that this car feature can be managed to the point where it has a positive impact in reducing the vehicle"s burden on the environment. For instance, it is obvious that based on what was said above, using air conditioning within the vehicle puts more stress on the engine, which in turn consumes more fuel. This information leads to the simple inference that not using automotive air conditioning will greatly reduce the impact of the vehicle on the environment. The natural solution is to roll down the windows of the vehicle and let the natural air blow through the automobile, cooling the passengers inside without burdening the engine. However, it is very important to note that when travelling with the windows of the vehicle rolled down, after the vehicle reaches a certain speed and then travels above it, the engine of the vehicle is in fact more stressed than when the vehicle is travelling with the windows rolled up. This is due in large part to the reduced aerodynamics of the automobile when it has its windows down and the increased friction of the air around the vehicle as the driver accelerates to their desired speed. In general, driving with the windows down on the highway reduces the energy efficiency of the vehicle"s engine.
A final area where a driver can manage their vehicle"s impact on the environment is in the management of their tire pressure. It may be very obvious that a vehicle"s tires have a direct impact on the fuel efficiency of the automobile. For instance, tires that are inflated bellow their optimum fill level increases the effort with which the engine needs to work to move the vehicle and thus decreases the fuel efficiency of the vehicle. Simply maintaining consistent tire pressure at the optimum fill level will ensure your tires are not increasing your vehicle"s impact on the environment.
