Careful attention must be given to the brake pads and the brake dust it generates when the brakes are applied, as these pads are manufactured from high grade materials, including asbestos, which can stand extreme temperatures. Brake pads used in extreme sports, like in car racing, take some time to warm up before getting into optimum adherence and maximum performance. The ordinary brake pads meanwhile, perform adequately well, but have certain limitations during heavy use and extremely high temperatures. In proper car tuning, you should be able to decide the correct type of brake pads for your motoring needs.
The braking disks are responsible in reducing the heat from braking. Larger disks have bigger surface areas and therefore have greater capacities in heat reduction. There are the more modern brake disks that are designed with grooves which prevent the build up of gas, those with drilled surfaces which help dissipate heat much faster, and disks that are vented which provide a double contact surface area for more efficient braking.
