Career Change Action Plans

Having a mentor in the same field when you are considering a career change who can offer advice

, relate job experiences and teach through their own experience will be invaluable. If you feel your skills in certain areas may be lacking they should be able to recommend research or training to update your knowledge.

Consider suggesting that you undertake a trial period for no pay so that you can look and learn for a few days.

Before jumping in with both feet, examine all the possibilities. Enthusiasm for all you new ideas is essential, otherwise cross them off your list. Remember you are master of your own destiny now but this is an Action Plan and ACTION is what you should be taking. Consider looking at a few career areas that are totally new to you. It may turnout to be a dream career, especially if you discover you already have many of the skills required?

If new or additional skills, training or certificates will be required to enter your new field then the time, money and resources involved will be well spent if you are serious but must be factored into your decision.

Since you last considered the skills you already have, the work place parameters may have changed. You may find that additional skills are required such as the computer, work place health and safety and even first aide. If you have not had the opportunity to upgrade skills to stay on top of progress in your last position now is the time to take the initiative and update these skills.

Polish up on your interview answers and take a good look at your resume-writing ability. What may have been a friendly, informal chat last time will certainly have changed this time around. If totally serious about this career change then spending a little money to reach your goals will be a must whether that invloves having a professional resume written, furthering your education or simply buying some research books. Outlay at this stage will pay off and put you ahead of the crowd.
