Career Change-you Have More Time Than You Think
Whether it be due to your current job, a long commute to and from work
, or family responsibilities, not having enough time to work on pursuing a new career path can present as quite a challenge. But just as with any challenge, there are ways around this.
Time wasting is very common for people who claim they do not have the time to live out their passions. You might spend hours every night watching television and not doing very much on the weekends either. This time might be your relaxing time because you work so hard during the week.
First and foremost, take a look at your life and determine if you really are short on time or if you are just not making good use of your time. If you want to set out on a new career path and make real changes in your life, then you will need to commit yourself to achieving your goals. If you have a routine of talking on the phone a lot with friends and family, going on outings or dates on the weekends, watching television, or doing some things that are not productive, then you have the time you need to pursue your new career path. You just need to manage your time better.
Remember that you don't have to complete an entire project once you get started. If your project is hours and you have an extra hour each day, then you can do a little bit at a time. This will also allow you to have something to look forward to each day and keep you feeling productive.
If you really are short on time, consider waking up an hour or two earlier each day or staying up just a little bit later each night. Just be sure to allow yourself enough sleep time. Also, if you have young children, consider changing their sleep routine and put them to bed earlier. Doing so will help free up even more time for you.
If you work and have an hour for lunch, use that time to not only eat but to also work on your new career goals. If you don't have access to a computer during your lunch hour but have a laptop of your own, bring it to work each day and use it to type up your plans and do important research. You can also use your lunch hour to make important phone calls related to your new career path.
Take a look at your weekend schedule and routine as well. Although weekends tend to be when people like to wind down and kick back, setting aside a block of time each weekend can be a great way to accomplish your goals.
Of course, if you have children, finding time to yourself can sometimes be a difficult task. The best way to find some time for yourself without the children present is to assess your resources. If you are married, set up an agreement with your spouse so that he is responsible for taking care of the children on certain evenings or windows of time. If you have family nearby, ask them for help in watching the kids for a few hours here and there and use that time to work on your career plan. You can also call on friends or parents of other children that our friends of your child and arrange a play date at their house. In exchange, you can return the favor on a day that works best for you. If need be, hire a baby sitter.
When it comes to finding the time for yourself, sometimes it's just a matter of being creative. Even if these methods only free up an hour or two each day, it's more time than you had before. So use that time wisely. Before you know it, your dreams of a new career will be reality!
