The islands comprising the nation of Grenada are known for their spices and cocoa plantations

, their pristine natural wonders [such as lush forests and exotic wildlife], their gastronomic delicacies, their fascinating history and warm local hospitality, and, perhaps, best of all, for their warm and clear waters teeming with life. In fact, this group of islands is of particular interest to those fascinated by marine life. The islands comprising Grenada are known for spectacular diving opportunities, with the warm waters being home to spectacular reefs and sea life such as coral, sponges, aquatic plants, sharks, turtles, whales, eels, and an assortment of shellfish. Each year, thousands of divers and snorkellers stay in Grenadas world-famous resorts, including the Calabash hotel, just for the opportunity to go diving in one of over 30 dive sites, including the 600-foot wreckage of the Bianca C, the largest shipwreck in the Caribbean.

In addition to its amazing dive sites, Grenada offers a great many other exciting activities for water sport lovers, many of which are located just a short distance away from the Calabash hotel. The bright sunshine, warm waters, and lush nature will transport you to a whole new magical world.

Sail the ocean

From the Calabash hotel, sailing enthusiasts can charter a yacht and crew and take a tour around islands of Grenada and its neighbours. Grenada has various marinas and boatyards that provide dry-dock and repair and restocking facilities for sailors. Each year, Grenada hosts a variety of sailing activities such as the Grenada Sailing Festival, the Carriacou Easter Regatta, and monthly yacht races by the Grenada Yacht Club. You can also hire a fishing boat and crew for a day of deep-sea fishing. Each January, game fishers from all around the world participate in the annual Spice Island Billfish Tournament for cash and prices.

Shoot the rapids

For a unique adventure, check out the wet, wild, and wonderful Adventure River Tubing at the Balthazar Estate. Enjoy a thrilling ride down swirling river currents on tubes, with guides providing direction as well as information regarding river life, such as the stunning scenery, tropical vegetation, and exotic wildlife. Participants can also swim in the pools along the way and enjoy some local drinks and snacks before heading back to the Calabash hotel. For an even higher-octane ride, check out the Zodiac boat ride. Zodiac boats are inflatable vessels that can be as long as 30 feet, designed for smooth high-speed rides. The trip follows the shoreline of the island while experienced guides point out interesting historical, ecological, and geographical locations.
