Caring For Your Towels, Pads & Mitts
Micro fibre towels, wash mitts and micro fibre or sponge applicator pads are excellent for many car cleaning duties but will only perform well if they are cared for properly. Used towels, applicator pads and mitts will contain contaminants that have been removed during cleaning and you do not want these contaminants to be drawn over the surfaces of you car next time it is cleaned as this could result in swirls and scratches being inflicted.
Regularly and correctly cleaning your towels, applicator pads and mitts after use also ensures that they will last longer and be kept in as good condition as possible which is very important, especially when cleaning & working on more delicate areas of your car. After different cleaning tasks have been undertaken you should ensure that the used and contaminated towels, pads and mitts are kept separate from any other clean ones in a container so you can keep track of what needs to be cleaned.
Micro fibre towels, wash mitts and applicator pads should be cleaned in the washing machine, this will ensure that they receive the most thorough clean possible and that all dirt and contaminants are properly removed prior to them being used again. They should not be washed on a high heat as this could damage the actual construction and fibres of them.
It is important not to use any kind of bleach or fabric softeners as these will ruin the effective cleaning properties of the items. Instead a general mild detergent should be used. Ensure you wash towels, wash mitts and applicator pads on a cycle that will give them a thorough rinse and spin as this will remove all detergent residues which is very important.
There are now micro fibre cleaning products available that are specifically formulated to safely and thoroughly clean these items and leave them in a great condition ready for use again. While it is not essential to use one of these specialized cleaning products they may be a worthwhile investment if you want to keep your towels, pads and mitts in as good condition as possible.
After your items have been machine washed, rinsed and spun they should be left to dry naturally. They shouldn't be exposed to allot of heat as it could actually melt and destroy the fibres of them, you could tumble dry them on a very low heat but it is much safer to simply let them dry naturally.
Micro fibre towels, wash mitts and applicator pads should only be washed on their own and should not be mixed with other laundry because the fibres will attract lint from the other cotton based items which will then become lodged in them and will be very difficult to remove.
